Southern Souls
by Michael Crawford

LOOK TO THE SOUTH AND SEE
THE SOULMAKERS STIRRING

SOULS SWAYING SWIFTLY

THROUGH THE TREES
THEY ARE THE BREEZE
THEIR ENERGY INTRIGUES

POLLINATING EVERYTHING
WITH THEIR DREAMS

LOOK TO SEE SOULS
SITTING IN THE CLOUDS
LOOKING DOWN

SEEING SOULS
SWIMMING
IN THE SOUTHERN TIDES

RIDING WAVES
TO THE SOUTHLAND
LEAVING IMPRINTS IN THE SAND

A SOUTHERNER UNDERSTANDS
WHAT IT MEANS TO HEAR

SOUNDS OF SILVER

A PULSE OF PURIFICATION
SWEEPS ACROSS THE SKY

SOUTHERN SOULS
NEVER LIE . . . STILL

THEY JUST FILL THE AIR
WITH SWEET SUN SHOWERS
OF SPIRITUALITY

I SEE A SOUL RESTING
BENEATH A WEEPING WILLOW TREE
I SWEAR IT WINKED AT ME
THEN WAVED HELLO
SOMETHING INSIDE OF ME
CONTINUES TO GROW
AS MY SOUL CRIES OUT
THROUGH MY MOUTH

I LOVE THE SOUTH

Michael Crawford is a 30-something husband and father. He has been writing seriously since mid high school, but teachers have encouraged his talent since elementary school. Crawford was born in Oklahoma but was raised all across the Southern states, finally stopping in Virginia (Hampton Roads) until graduation and then making his way to New Orleans. He currently does live performances for junior highs, high schools and colleges. He is well on his way to making poetry a career. Keep your eyes and ears open--you'll see him one day.

"Love Life
Live Long
Let Life
Give Song"
