Remember All Of Love
by Phil Bratcher

There's a morning light unsurpassed by nature
Nor until now by anything else we know
Let us apologize to our sensitivities
And merely wait like lovers who know
The beauty of life's currency as awesome and amazing
            In one simple, smooth combination
There's no question it comes about in some fashion
            To complete our senses
And if you can't think of anything else,
Then you're most likely thinking of love,
Practical as a spring day and every bit as needed,
Neither can you separate love from its pain
No more than you can that love affair
You had during the summer in New York City
You can't forget loaning your pen to
The famous news correspondent standing in the cold
That early evening trying to do her story
And you felt privileged just to be a small part of all that
Or recalling the glistening, golden magic
Of an autumn afternoon driving to New England
Through the Shenandoah Valley to pick up someone special
            Love is all of that
And you can't hold one part from the other
Nor would you want to try
Who would pick apart the beauty that all of love is
As though it were a piece of fish on the buffet?
I remember all of love--every fight and dark cloud
            Along with reconciled glory
All of it is good and all of it is needed
Or, sweet Child, it may be within your memory,
But it won't be love at all.
