WAR POEM
by Bonnie Bruton Horton

Floating freely through time and space,
            I explore uncharted dimensions
That pique my interest and expand my soul
To grasp all that is available to me.

            Birdsong and soft, warm breezes
            Envelope me as I freefall
            Through the downy clouds
To find myself resting against a tree.

Tough, brown trunk roots me to earth
Even as the lacy green canopy
            Filters particles of sunlight
            To shade me gently.

            Patterns of light and shadow
            Invade my drowsy consciousness
            Forming a puzzling mosaic
            To expand my awareness.

The universe in sync with itself
And me, and you, and you, and you
            Encompasses, enfolds, enlightens all
            To make us unimaginably connected.
