When I die, I’ll be a biscuit!
by Jacqueline Brunson

Talking to my children one evening about my wishes when it’s my time to leave this world gave me food for thought.

My son who is in his early 20s and my daughter, 16, were standing with me in the kitchen as I was explaining what I would like done when I pass. I told them I wish to be cremated and they should have a small get together of my friends and family. I wanted them to play two songs I really enjoy: "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray and "Love Can Build a Bridge" by The Judds.

I also told them I want them to let the folks there say what they thought of me and talk about happy things, basically to help my children feel better.

When I talked about cremation, I told them they could take my ashes and sprinkle them around my flowers outside since I love digging in the flowers, and I especially would like to be sprinkled around the oak tree I planted when we moved into our first house.

My son asked various questions, and then my daughter decided to put her two cents in. She stated, "Well, Mom, why don't we make biscuits out of your ashes?"

I was dumbfounded. My son was laughing hysterically and my daughter was standing there waiting for an answer.

I asked, "So, what exactly do you plan to do with these biscuits you want to bake out of me? Please tell me you won't give them to people to eat?” She answered, " Oh, no, I thought we would just give them to the dogs; I mean, you know how much you love animals."

At that, my son rolled in the floor, laughing, and I stood there trying to figure out WHO IS THIS CHILD? She was completely serious, she loves to bake, but I hadn't thought about her baking going this far. I looked at my son and said, "Please, YOU handle my wishes – I'm worried about what she will really do!"

No, she is not completely blonde, but I do wonder where she comes up with some of her ideas. Food for thought? Uh huh, and it smells like biscuits.

BIO: "I have always wanted to write," says Brunson, "but have never had any training. I don't know fancy words and sometimes don't know how to put thoughts down on paper to make the story sound right. I just write from the heart and from my imagination. I have a vivid one! I love fantasy--a big interest of mine--but I also love to read about ancient history and such.

“I have many funny stories. A few are about my daughter, others are just things that have happened over my lifetime. Happily, they are mostly funny things, I try to keep the sad times to a minimum.

"I have a saying I like:

May your path be bright;
May your heart be light, and
Your dreams always in sight
